Homework

We know from extensive research that parents who are actively involved with their children's school and showing interest in their learning, give their children a great start on the learning journey.  We also know that those children go on to achieve better academic results, behave better, lead healthier lives and have better prospects upon leaving school.

Homework is always difficult to agree on as some parents want more and some want less!   Homework can be a wonderful way to become involved in your child’s education. It also promotes time management and academic discipline as well as being a fun way to practise skills or find out new things. We focus on basic skills to reinforce learning at home, yet still gives time for family life.

The table below outlines weekly homework for each year group IN ADDITION TO DAILY READING.  All children from Reception to Year 6 should be reading to an adult at least 5 times per week.  This must be recorded in your child’s grey/blue diary.

In Years 1-6 homework is set on Friday each week and expected to be returned by the following Thursday.  Parents are asked to sign their child’s home/school diary by the Thursday to acknowledge their child has completed their homework at an appropriate standard.

If children do not hand their homework in on Thursday, they will be given an extra day to complete at home before having to complete work in their own time (e.g. playtime and lunchtime) on Friday.
