The Pelicans in Year 6 have won a class writing competition, open to all 8-14 year old classes in the country. The whole class got involved and used the success criteria supplied to explore how it would have felt to be a character from An Eagle in the Snow, the new novel by Michael Morpurgo.
The class teacher submitted the entry before Christmas and was delighted to receive an email last week to say her very talented class of Pelicans had won the Eagle in the Snow Writing Competition with the best overall class entry. The judges at HarperCollins thought the entry was to a high standard: it was very emotive, the use of language really gave the reader a sense of how terrifying the situations were and the judges thought the piece showed really inventive ways of retelling the events - from diary entries, to flashback, to drawing parallels between Coventry and Syria.
The prize is a live virtual event with Michael Morpurgo in June/July (as he is currently writing his new book at the moment) and a library of his books for the school, which we will be receiving very soon.
