Read Write Inc. Phonics
Phonics Intent
We are passionate about ensuring all children become confident readers and writers by learning key phonetic knowledge and applying these to the segmenting and blending of words. Through small incremental steps we build phonetic knowledge systematically using validated synthetic phonics programmes . All children in Reception and Year 1 have daily, dedicated phonics lessons which are delivered through a consistent, effective teaching structure. It is our aim to continue phonics support for those after Year 1 who still require this specific teaching. All resources used to support the phonics learning journey is decodable and closely matched to the children’s needs, differentiated where required.
Read Write Inc. (RWI) is a phonics programme which helps all children learn to read fluently and at speed so they can focus on developing their skills in comprehension, vocabulary and spelling. The main programme is designed for children aged 4-7.
Speed Sounds and Read Write Inc. Stages
If your child is learning to read at school with Read Write Inc. Phonics, they will be at one of the following stages:

What is Fred Talk?
Our teaching staff will introduce your child to a toy frog called Fred once he or she is ready to start reading words.
Fred can only say the sounds in a word and needs your child to help him read the word. Fred will say the sounds and children will work out the word. For example, Fred will say the sounds c–a–t, and children will say the word cat. This is Fred Talk: sounding out the word.
